WineBev Services employs adults ages 18 and over with intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, autism, and epilepsy. Social enterprises are mission driven organizations that conduct business for a social purpose to generate profit that furthers their social goals.
WineBev Services provides needed revenue at a time when agencies are facing significant reductions, creates greater economic independence for adults with developmental disabilities, and enhances the quality of life for the people we serve and their communities.
We hired our first employee with a developmental disability in January 2008. We are very proud to have paid $179,000 in wages to our WineBev Services employees with disabilities in 2008 and $226,000 in wages in 2009. These are wages that our employees use to support their families, purchase nessesities, pay for housing, and enjoy recreation activities. Our employees are paid weekly based on the number of hours they worked the previous week. By paying our employees the prevailing, entry-level wage of $8.00 per hour rather than sub-minimum wages, we have raised the bar for adults with developmental disabilities and helped establish a standard for businesses.
